Practicing and Performing Visibility
2025 - 2026
This Arts Council Wales supported 'Practising and Performing Visibility' project was an eleven-month Creative Steps funded professional development period. It evolved from a need to understand barriers within my practice, particularly around being seen and sharing work. Through creative practice, mentoring, and coaching, I was supported to take risks and explore these blocks. Central to the work was transforming my relationship with my work as a disabled artist - what I share and don't, and how that connects to shame, vulnerability, and internalised stigma and oppression. These barriers had prevented me from developing areas such as my social media presence, which I explored through reflective writing, making work, research and regular mentoring and coaching support.
I attended workshops and conferences, presented at the TaPRA (Theatre and Performance Research Association) conference, and submitted an article to the Journal of Applied Arts and Health. All of this grew my confidence, trust, and experience - preparing me for a PhD and developing my connectedness with the South Wales arts community.
